Description
I captured this Tufted Titmouse in the spring as the Redbud tree in the background was just beginning to bloom. He was oblivious to me taking his picture as he was hard at work pecking open the sunflower seed that he has held securely between his toes. I love the way the are able to put in under each toe just enough to hold it down and open it with their beak without dropping it. Amazing! I have added subtle texture to the background as well as a digital painted effect and a dark frame with subtle decorations all around for artistic appeal.. Many more wonderful works can be found in my various galleries, from photographs and photoart to digital creations and abstracts. Thanks for browsing, commenting and most of all for any purchases. Debbie Portwood :D...................................(A little gray bird with an echoing voice, the Tufted Titmouse is common in eastern deciduous forests and a frequent visitor to feeders. The large black eyes, small, round bill, and brushy crest gives these birds a quiet but eager expression that matches the way they flit through canopies, hang from twig-ends, and drop in to bird feeders. When a titmouse finds a large seed, you'll see it carry the prize to a perch and crack it with sharp whacks of its stout bill..Size & Shape - Tufted Titmice look large among the small birds that come to feeders, an impression that comes from their large head and eye, thick neck, and full bodies. The pointed crest and stout bill help identify titmice even in silhouette....Color Pattern - Soft silvery gray above and white below, with a rusty or peach-colored wash down the flanks. A black patch just above the bill makes the bird look snub-nosed.....Behavior - Tufted Titmice are acrobatic foragers, if a bit slower and more methodical than chickadees. They often flock with chickadees, nuthatches, and woodpeckers and are regular visitors to feeders, where they are assertive over smaller birds. Their flight tends to be fluttery but level rather than undulating. - Habitat - You'll find Tufted Titmice in most eastern woodlands below 2,000 feet elevation, including deciduous and evergreen forests. Tufted Titmice are also common visitors at feeders and can be found in backyards, parks, and orchards. Find more great information on this and all other birds as well at - www.allaboutbirds.org

Wow, Debbie, this is impressive! The fact that Bob and Nadine have commented that it is one of their favorites out of 100's of hundreds of images seen in groups today, says a lot! Bob and Nadine look at hundreds of images every day submitted through the multiple groups that they facilitate, so that is quite an honor! Love how clear this Tufted Titmouse is so clear and is perched on a arched metal handle, and the background is softened but yet has a scrolling pattern lightly applied to it...such an elegant touch! Very nicely done! Love it! Fave! L/F/FB,
